2010 Davis Drug Guide July 26, 2010 dale cook (KINGSLAND, TX, US) The updated print copy is great, the CD however is lacking compared to the "Old" CD, there seem to be common missing drugs from the database, when you register the CD it has more content, I'm a home health RN
TERRIBLE product on the Kindle July 26, 2010 Brandy T Weddel 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Taber's 20th edition e-dictionary and was so happy with it that I decided to buy Davis's Drug Guide as well, thinking they would be similarly set up and easy to use. The drug guide is impossible to use on the Kindle. There is no way to search for a particular medicine. If you use the Kindle search feature, it will pull up every instance of that drug's mention from the beginning to the end of the book, in order only by page, not by relevance. The link that says "Drug monographs in alphabetical order by generic name" actually takes you to the "Medication Safety Tools link". It appears the index in the back of the actual book was actually removed from the Kindle version. The text goes from the last drug in the guide, to the appendixes and then to the bibliography. Fortunately, Amazon says they will honor returns on purchased e-books for 7 days. I'm getting my money back and I'll stick with my paperback copy. That's a shame -- this version could have been superbly useful for class and clinicals.
My single-star review is for the Kindle version only, I have found my paperback version to be invaluable.
Drug Guide July 4, 2010 jdavi I love this edition of drug guide. The CD-ROM is a life saver and is pretty much the only way I use the book. It is so handy to just type in the drug (generic or trade) and have it pop up on your computer. Love it!
Preferred drug guide for my nursing program June 24, 2010 N. Roberts (Florida) I am a first year nursing student. The Davis Drug Guide was the one recommended by the program. We use it every day in the course work.
If I had to redesign this reference work, the one thing I would add would be an expanded section on drug groups and classifications. It helps the student to understand the drug if they can understand the group it belongs to. Each drug class has its own characteristics, mechanisms of action, interactions and side effects. There are a few pages of groups of drugs, but not enough.
Not "New" Condition June 18, 2010 C. Smits (Washington) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was advertised as "used-like new" and it was not in like new condition. The front and back covers had creases and both were completely bent, the corners were folded, it looked like something was spilled on the back pages, it didn't include the CD with the book and there was writing in the book. I ordered the book on May 5th and it said it would be shipped between May 6 & 7 but was not shipped until May 9. The shipping confirmation email even listed the book as new and the added comment was "great condition." This book is not in great condition, it was a used condition.
